47 Cambodian Scouts to Attend 25th World Scout Camp in Korea

PHNOM PENH: Nearly 50 Cambodian Girl Scouts will participate in South Korea’s 25th World Scout Camp in August, gaining experience to become pillars of the community for the future of the nation.

On June 19, General Commissioner of the Cambodian Girl Scout Association and wife of Gen. Hun Manet, Pich Chanmony, met with the 47 Cambodian National Scouts selected to attend this year’s camp. She noted that the event would take place at the Jamburi Camp and is for girls age 14-17.

She asserted that the mission of the program is to develop and empower all young people to become a shining example for the nation’s future. She told the crowd it was important that the scouts share their experiences and broaden their understanding.

The General Commissioner confirmed that the Cambodian Girl Scout Association serves as a guide for its scouts while providing spaces for girls and women to exchange ideas. Recently, the National Scout Association held a conference in Kampong Thom, where scouts had the opportunity to commune with the Cambodian Women's Scout Association to share experiences and learn from each other.

Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and Deputy Director of the Cambodian National Scouts, Kim Sethany, noted that the camp was an exciting opportunity for scouts to meet in large numbers and meet fellow members from all over the world. She hopes that through such experiences, scouts will work together to reach their full potential physically, intellectually, socially, mentally and emotionally to become responsible citizens and to become active members of the local, national and international community.

Currently, the Cambodian National Scouts have a total of 171,135 members, of which 49% are female.
